Back again, and again...

Returning from a hiatus of several years (again) Posting has been non existent but I'd like to remedy that. Caregiving my spouse has become more "hands on" leaving less time for the "fun" things. What's been happening: Crocheting a rose colored scarf, and trying my hand at spinning yarn on a turkish spindle, and soon a wheel. My next project I think will be socks made from home spun, don't know yet if it will be toe up or cuff down, that remains to be seen.

My current knitting project is a shawl for myself to go with some shirts I bought. It's supposed to be 20' X 60' but I'm making it just a tad wider, say around 25'. It's an extremely simple pattern: k3 p3 for a kind of a bumpy garter stitch look (not stockingnet!) I'm using an inexpensive Acrylic that feels really good in my hand, soft, kind of "fluffy" and in 3 colors. Will be posting a picture of it when it's done!

Free Form Fair Isle Hat

Just recently finished a nice hat for my sweetie's birthday. No pattern? No problem, just did what felt good, using a stranded coloring/patterning. Fun Fun!!

Haven't posted in YEARS....

Aw heck! Why not! In the last, what, 7 YEARS!! I have continued knitting socks, crocheting hats and taking care of my sweetie who has been ill with a chronic condition. I am the main (only) caregiver so being here has given me plenty of time to knit, and recently to learn to spin on a turkish spindle (LOVE IT!) and soon on the Babe Production wheel I got for my birthday (yesterday)My current "project" is spinning enough Merino Top to make myself a pair of socks.

Deviating from socks

Knitting is not rocket science. I read somewhere that stripped down to it's essential component, knitting is based on just one stitich and what you do with it. Twisting it into a purl, increasing or decreasing it, or making it something a little different like a bauble or bead....Hi, my name is micki and I am a yarn addict (hi micki!). So far I've been knitting for about 8 years and crocheting for about 4. Mostly socks and hats because they're quick and I'm impatient. But I think that now I'm ready for a bit of a change.
So I'm starting a new project: a knitted bra-like top. Saw it in the book "the Urban knitter" and it looks like "How hard can it be?" Actually I know better than to ask that question. Knitting may be only a matter of one stitch, but knitting instructions are a different matter. I think it was the unecessary complexity of knitting instructions that daunted me and kept me for so long from the fun, pleasure, and relaxation of knitting.
There's this great website: http://www.knittinghelp.com run by a delightful lady living in (I think) Massachusetts.
Good basic stuff and she's got online videos for those who do better watching someone do the knitting thing.
Hopefully in the future (when I get a decent digital camera), I'll post some of my projects.

Ta Ta for now.
